OPENING
- Remember, contents are under pressure, so use care when opening sparkling wine as the stopper may eject forcefully.
- Chill well. Do not shake. The bottle contains high pressure that increases with warmth or shaking.
- Point the bottle away from yourself and others.
- Carefully remove the foil covering and wire hood/topper that holds the cork in place.
- Keeping a firm grip on the cork, hold the bottle at a 45 degree angle and twist the cork out slowly by hand. Never use a cork remover.
SERVING
- Long-stemmed flutes or tulip-shaped glasses enhance the flow of bubbles and concentrate the aromas of the wine, but regular wine glasses will work almost as well. Use a clean, dry glass and don’t chill or ice it.
- Tilt the glass and slowly pour the sparkling wine to avoid frothing. Allow glasses to settle for a moment before topping them off to about ¾ full.
- Sparkling wine should be served cold at about 45°F (7°C). Refrigerate 3-4 hours or place an unopened bottle in an ice bucket (half ice and half water) with a handful of salt for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Never be place your sparkling wine in the freezer or it might explode.
- One 750ml bottle of sparkling wine holds 5 to 6 full servings or 8 partial glasses for a toast. After deciding how many glasses you’ll serve each guest, calculate how many bottles you will need based on your guest count.
